NOKOMIS — Nokomis Public Library is launching a new community book club and inviting readers to connect over stories and conversation.
The club will hold its first meeting on Thursday, March 26, from 7:30–8:30 p.m. at the library. Everyone is welcome to attend, whether they are longtime book lovers, occasional readers, or simply curious about joining a discussion group.
During the first session, participants will introduce themselves and talk about what they like to read. Then the group will choose its first book and discuss ideas for future selections.
Library staff hopes the new club will become a regular gathering place for Nokomis residents who want to connect offline. In addition, they see it as a way to support literacy and build stronger community ties. The group may explore author spotlights, themed reading months, and possible partnerships with local schools and civic organizations.
Book clubs are a great way to build community. You don’t need to be an expert on literature—just willing to read, listen, and share your thoughts.
Anyone interested in joining is asked to contact the library at (217) 563-2734 or stop by the front desk to let staff know they plan to participate. This helps the library plan for seating, discussion materials, and possible refreshments.
The club is free to join, and future meetings are expected to take place monthly at the library. Finally, organizers say they welcome suggestions for genres and authors, from contemporary fiction and mysteries to nonfiction, memoirs, and classics.
The Nokomis Public Library is located at 100 N. Spruce St. in Nokomis and currently serves residents throughout Nokomis Township and current patrons of the Witt Township Memorial Library using their library card. For more information about the book club or other library programs, call (217) 563-2734.
