SPRINGFIELD — A Springfield steakhouse will be closing its doors later this month.
Alexander’s Steakhouse, located at 620 N. Bruns Lane, will be closing February 29 according to a Facebook post Friday.
The post said in its entirety from Mercedes Restaurants Inc. president Ron Helms:

Helms said in the posts that they extended the lease through the end of February to see if the holiday period and its most recent price increases would turn things around. Unfortunately, it was all for naught.
Helms proceeded to thank the staff members of the Springfield location for all of their hard work and dedication to Alexander’s and their guests. He would also do the same to the guests who have walked through their doors for roughly four decades.
Normal operations will continue with the Springfield location until its closure as long as they continue to have adequate staffing to do so.
Alexander’s Steakhouse has two other locations in Peoria and Normal, which are not impacted by the closure.
A request for comment from Helms about job offerings for Springfield employees to work at the Peoria or Normal locations was not returned before publication.
The closure is among a long line of restaurant closures in the city,
