HILLSBORO — The Montgomery County Clerk’s Office reminds voters that their voter registration information must be up-to-date to avoid problems or delays in voting in the upcoming primary. Excluding grace period registration and voting, the last day for registration or transfer of voter registration is Tuesday, February 17.

Montgomery County residents who are at least 17 years old on or before the primary are eligible to register. (The rule only applies if the voter will become 18 on or before the November 3 general election.)

Voters are reminded that they must completely re-register to vote if their name has changed or if they have moved.

Procedure to update voter registration

Voters who have moved within the county can do this by completing the voter transfer information on the back of their current card. They can also complete the voter address change form, which can be downloaded and printed from the county website.

Either document can be submitted to the county clerk’s office in Hillsboro. Voter registration services can also be completed in person at the county clerk’s office in Hillsboro, by mail, or online.

Qualifications to register to vote in the Illinois primary elections are:

  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Must be age 17 on or by primary election day. (This only applies to voters who will become 18 by the November general election.
  • Residency in the precinct for 30 days before the primary.

When registering to vote, applicants will be requested to provide documentation of their identity and current physical address.

For information about registering to vote, residents are encouraged to go to the county website, email the county clerk’s office at [email protected], or call the county clerk’s office at (217) 532-9530. Voters can visit the office on the first floor of the Historic Courthouse in Hillsboro during business hours. Those are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
