The ongoing strikes by the Hollywood elite in the Writers and Actors Guilds are significantly impacting the world of entertainment. These further protracting conflicts are definitely seen on the tube and TV plans for major networks.

One of those networks is bringing back football regularly for the 2023-24 NFL season.

“Monday Night Football,” which is currently a property of ESPN, is returning to regular broadcast status on ABC this season as a result of the strikes.

“MNF” games normally air on ESPN and its sister cable and streaming channels. Meanwhile, ABC gets occasional simulcasts and certain exclusive games.

This agreement is in place as both networks are under the ownership of The Walt Disney Company.

ABC made the scheduling change to accommodate the NFL on Monday nights. With no fresh content to offer, the network will continue to broadcast an NFL game on Monday nights for the remainder of the NFL season.

Cable providers are not necessarily happy that Disney is charging for both ESPN and ABC although they are airing the same programming.

Despite the programming changes at ABC, ESPN continues to command a high premium from distributors due to their exclusive live sports content.
