CHARLESTON — The Eastern Illinois University Panthers have a new running backs coach, per an announcement from football head coach Chris Wilkerson. Shaun Wick was announced as the hire during a news release on Wednesday, who is coming to Charleston after two seasons at New Mexico State.
During his time with the Aggies, he served as an offensive analyst and assistant coach for running backs and wide receivers. He would help coach two second-team All-Conference USA running backs, Seth McGowan and Mike Washington. On the wide receiver side, he coached a second-team All-Conference USA selection in Donovan Faupel.
Before New Mexico State, Wick worked one season at Ventura Community College as its running backs coach. He would help the school produce its first 1,000-yard duo in school history, while averaging 227.2 yards per game on the ground.
His coaching career started at Moorpark Community College as its running backs coach. During his time there, he helped coach the team to its first-ever winning season at 7-4 and its first bowl appearance in five seasons.
Wick is a graduate of the University of Wyoming, where he played football as a running back. The 2017 graduate finished his career as the Cowboys’ seventh-leading rusher in school history at 2,533 yards. He is currently eighth on the career rushing touchdowns list.
A two-time Doak Walker Award selection for its watchlist in 2014 and 2015, Wick earned all-conference honorable mentions for the Mountain West Conference in 2013 and 2014
Following his tenure as a scholar-athlete at Wyoming, Wick played three seasons in the Canadian Football League with the BC Lions and Edmonton Eskimos.
