Champaign County woman dies in interstate crash in Effingham County

NEAR EFFINGHAM -- On Friday at approximately 4:19 a.m., the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department and the Illinois State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-57 southbound, approximately three miles south of Effingham. Officers arrived and found a female deceased in the vehicle. She was identified as Alyashailyassa Muhammad, 20, of Dewey in rural Champaign County. CHAMPAIGN — The City of Champaign will close one block of Fifth Street and part of Kirby Avenue for road work. Fifth Street will close between Daniel Street and Chalmers Street near campus. DECATUR -- An 18-year-old accused in the January shooting death of his father will remain in custody. This comes after a judge denied pretrial release, according to court documentation.
