Single-vehicle accident in rural Christian County results in death of Effingham man

RURAL PANA (Heartland Newsfeed) — An automotive accident resulting in one fatality in rural Pana is currently under joint investigation by two county governmental agencies in Christian County.

In a statement from Christian County Sheriff’s Department, Christian County 911 received a call regarding a single-vehicle traffic crash involving a semi-tractor trailer Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 1:13 PM along County Highway 12/Bear Creek Rd. approximately one-half mile east of 1700 East Road.

Responding to the accident were Pana Fire Department, Pana Emergency Medical Services/Pana Ambulance Service, Pana Police Department and the Christian County Sheriff’s Department.

Jerry Newburn, 62, of Effingham was pronounced dead at the scene by county coroner Amy Calvert Winans, with an autopsy to being conducted on Thursday. A joint crash investigation will be done by the sheriff’s department and the coroner’s office and is ongoing.
