BEARDSTOWN – The Illinois State Police (ISP) arrested a 37-year-old male from Beardstown Thursday for possessing child pornography.

The arrest of Kyaw B. Tun comes from an ongoing investigation since August 2021 by the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

An initial investigation came in August 2021 after learning about a subject distributing child pornography via electronic means through an online platform. The case would further go through higher channels to Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul. It would be a case among many to become a referral to the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force.

Evidence from ISP DCI investigators and the ICAC task force would result in a single count of possession of child pornography, a Class 3 felony. The charge filing was in Cass County by State’s Attorney Craig Miller. A subsequent arrest warrant was issued for Tun, with a bond at $100,000.

Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department would arrest Tun on Thursday. He is currently in custody at the Morgan County Correctional Center in Jacksonville.

How to make anonymous tips for child pornography

Anonymous tips and reports relating to child pornography can go through the National Center for Mission and Exploited Children CyberTipline.
