Matt Hughes Retirement UFC on Fox 6 750 748x370SPRINGFIELD (Heartland Newsfeed) — A report from former UFC welterweight champion and Hall of Famer Matt Hughes’ long-time manager confirms that Hughes has improved since his truck-train collision Friday.

Monte Cox, a long-time manager, confirmed in a report that Hughes, 43, is awake and responsive less than 24 hours following the collision after reportedly being in a coma. Cox had been getting updates via text message from Hughes’ twin brother Mark Hughes – the biggest update being that “his eyes are closed, but he is awake and squeezing hands”, showing signs of responsiveness.

Reports show that Hughes suffered a collapsed lung and was in a medically induced coma due to a brain bleed, but has made major strides since admission into HSHS St. John’s Hospital yesterday.
