COLUMBIA, Mo. — The University of Missouri (Mizzou) gymnastics team announced their 2021 schedule Monday.
While the Mizzou team usually holds a 20-week season, Mizzou Athletics did not feel that it would be appropriate. This is due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
In Mizzou’s last full season in 2019, the team would finish 8-11-1 (2-5 Southeastern Conference), finishing eighth in the conference championship. They did not advance past the NCAA Regionals.
Mizzou’s 2020 season was cut one meet short due to the pandemic. The SEC and NCAA would cancel all post-season activities as a result.
For 2021, the schedule will be conference-exclusive. Eight meets will take place over ten weeks, concluding with the SEC Championships in New Orleans on March 20.
Mizzou’s decision to limit competition to conference opponents were on the basis of a need for maximum flexibility in making any scheduling adjustments. The rescheduling decisions would be in reaction to developments relating to the pandemic, plus further advice from medical professionals.
The schedule has two open dates in weeks five and ten to allow for the rescheduling of events.
