Greenville men drop game against conference favorite Blackburn

GREENVILLE — SLIAC favorites Blackburn College proved to be too much for Greenville University Saturday in conference action.

Greenville hit a rough spot early, with Blackburn racing out to a 20-6 lead in the first 7:30 of the game.

The Panthers were able to pull back up to a 10-point deficit at halftime. At the half, the Beavers had a 56-46 lead.

Greenville struck early, with a Chris Jackson three-pointer closing the gap to seven. However, the effective Beaver offense brought their lead back to double figures until the final buzzer. Greenville suffers their 16th loss of the season and sixth in the SLIAC as a result of a 114-91 loss.

Jarred Johnson led Greenville’s scoring with 20 points. Kaidyn Johnson ended with 14 points, with fellow starter Cam Irvin tallying 11 points. Travis Dickey scored 10 points in one eight minutes of action.

Jackson led in rebounds with six and led with four assists with Everett Campbell. Johnson also tallied on a team-high five steals. Additionally, the Panthers were able to force 37 Blackburn turnovers.

Izayah Talmadge led Blackburn’s scoring with 22 points in 17 minutes of action. Bryson Kirby led the team with 12 assists, with Chanz Aldridge tallying nine assists. Blackburn combined for seven steals, five blocks, and forced 13 Greenville turnovers.

On the hot stove

The Panthers (1-16, 0-6 SLIAC) will travel to Eureka Tuesday to conclude the first loop of the conference schedule. Meanwhile, the Beavers (5-11, 4-1 SLIAC) will be in action Tuesday against Westminster.
