Several wrestling shows will be head-to-head against the World Series this week, including AEW and WWE programming.
Tonight’s broadcast of WWE Raw will clash against Game 3 of the World Series. Tomorrow night’s Game 4 will greatly impact viewership for WWE NXT.
However, WWE isn’t the only promotion that will be facing viewership declines. AEW Dynamite will clash with Game 5 of the seven-game series on Wednesday.
The Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros have won one game apiece during a two-game series in Houston. They play all three games from Citizens Bank Park, with a potentially Series-ending scenario for either team. Otherwise, a forced Game 6 could impact the viewership of both WWE Smackdown on FS1 and AEW Rampage on TNT.
According to Brandon Thurston, the October 21 editions of Smackdown and Rampage were notably outranked by Game 3 of the NLCS. The game drew a 1.12 figure in the key 18-49 demo.
Despite the game, Smackdown drew 2.23 million viewers with a 0.52 rating. Rampage drew 480,000 with a 0.13 rating.
Wednesday’s Dynamite card is stacked with championships abound. The ROH World, AEW All-Atlantic, and TBS Championships are all on the line, with potentially a new contender for the AEW World title.
ROH World Champion Chris Jericho defends against an unidentified former ROH champion. It could literally be anyone: Homicide, Eddie Edwards, Davey Richards, Jay Briscoe, Adam Cole, Jay Lethal, Kyle O’Reilly, Matt Taven, even RUSH or Jonathan Gresham.
There will be a three-way match for the All-Atlantic Championship as current champion Orange Cassidy takes on Rey Fenix and Luchasaurus.
Finally, the TBS Championship is on the line with champion Jade Cargill defending against Marina Shafir.
