FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The Redbirds men’s basketball squad will be returning to Mexico for the Cancun Challenge for the third time. This is according to a media release from Illinois State University’s athletic department on July 8.
The schedule for Illinois State at the Cancun Challenge will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 23 against local foe St. Louis University. Tip-off for the Redbirds against the Billikens from the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya will be at 7:30 p.m. Central.
The Redbirds will tip-off against either Buffalo or Stephen F. Austin for a matchup on the following night.
The two games in Mexico are broadcasting on CBS Sports Network.
Games are played in the modified ballroom at the Hard Rock Hotel Rivera Maya. Teams and their fans are in walking distance from their room, the games, the restaurants, and even the poolside.
The men’s event began in 2008 and has been going on every year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year, it was moved to Florida due to COVID-19 restrictions.
