A current WWE superstar is expressing frustration with a “lack of opportunities” among several reasons and wants out of his contract. This is even despite the firing or release of over 50 wrestlers from the beginning of 2021.
Gran Metalik, who currently performs on WWE’s Raw brand is asking for his release after five years with the company, according to a report from Mas Lucha. Metalik also expressed frustration with his direction in the company.
Metalik is formerly known as Mascare Dorada and made a name for himself in Mexico. He was a wrestler for 11 years for CMLL before doing stints for New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
He came to WWE in 2016 as a competitor in the Cruiserweight Classic, losing to Zack Sabre Jr. in the finals. Although a consistent member of the company’s cruiserweight roster, he has never been Cruiserweight Champion.
Metalik formed the Lucha House Party faction with Lince Dorado and Kalisto. Kalisto was released on April 15 after eight years with the company. Metalik and Dorado were drafted to Raw last October and would last perform September 6 in tag team action in a losing bout against The New Day.
Metalik’s contract doesn’t expire until 2023
Metalik’s current contract does not expire until 2023. However, WrestleTalk reports recent renegotiations of a number of WWE contracts. What is currently unknown is whether Metalik’s contract was among stars who received updated deals.
WWE has yet to announce the acceptance of his request.
