HILLSBORO — The Montgomery County office for Illinois Extension conducted its annual yield survey of the area corn crops. The survey data gathered resulted in an estimated county-wide average yield of 209.4 bushels per acre, which is up from last year’s average of 206.6 bushels per acre. PANA -- The Pana City Council heard a plea to stop installing a solar project at 7th and Grant streets during its August 10 meeting. The project, according to Marsha Miles, would be near the schools, and the developers are requesting a 40-year lease. NOKOMIS — Authorities found no explosive devices after investigating a report of possible explosives at an abandoned home in Nokomis. The home, located on S. Union Street, was near Shane Cole Memorial Park in Nokomis. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department said the Nokomis Police Department received information about possible explosive devices at the residence.
