Two injured in Interstate 55 collision Saturday

LITCHFIELD — A Springfield man drove the wrong way on Interstate 55, colliding with another vehicle early Saturday morning. This is according to a police report from the Illinois State Police.

Remington Montgomery, 37, of Springfield was driving southbound onto the northbound lanes of I-55 north of Litchfield in Montgomery County. At around 2:05 a.m., Montgomery’s 2020 Nissan pickup collided with a 2019 Kenworth semi-trailer driving in the correct direction.

The driver of the semi-trailer, Roger Rosser, 56, of Rockford was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Montgomery was flown to a regional hospital with serious injuries.

Montgomery faces preliminary charges relative to driving under the influence and driving the wrong way on an interstate. Other charges, according to the report, include speeding and driving without insurance.
