HILLSBORO — Petitioning is currently underway for races up for election in Montgomery County next spring.
Petitioning began Tuesday for municipal, fire, park, and library district, and school board positions for the April 4, 2023 consolidated election.
Municipal offices will include mayor/aldermen, mayor/commissioners, and village president/trustees. Some municipalities may be electing a clerk and/or treasurer.
Petitioning for the 2023 consolidated election cycle
Petitions for municipal races are available via the municipal clerk. Petitions for fire, park, and library districts are available via the district’s clerk or secretary.
Anyone seeking to circulate petitions for school board positions will need to pick up a candidate packet from the County Clerk’s office. This applies to Hillsboro District #3, Litchfield District #12, Nokomis District #22, and Panhandle District #2.
Petition deadlines
These petitions for all races are due to either the local clerk or the County Clerk. The filing is during the week of December 12-19. School board petition filings must be with the County Clerk and not the school district unit offices.
Potential candidates should contact the County Clerk’s office to determine the areas within the school district from which they may be elected.
The County Clerk’s office is located on the first floor of the historic courthouse in Hillsboro. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Other methods of inquiry are available by calling (217) 532-9530 or by emailing sandyl@montgomerycountyil.gov.
