An EXTREME HEAT WARNING will be in effect later this morning and will run through Monday night. The National Weather Service in St. Louis announced the warning earlier this morning. It will be in effect beginning at 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday. Dangerously hot conditions are expected with indices as high as 111. Farmington man sentenced in fentanyl death

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- A Farmington, Missouri, man has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison for supplying the fentanyl that killed a friend. U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr. handed down the sentencing Thursday in U.S. District Court in Cape Girardeau. James B. Link, 32, pleaded guilty in April to one count of distribution of fentanyl. Heat Advisory extended to Thursday

A Heat Advisory currently in place has now been extended to Thursday evening. At 1:06 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service announced an extension to the current Heat Advisory, which was initially to expire at 9 p.m. Tuesday. Other areas received an extension to the advisory yesterday evening. The amended Heat Advisory is now set to expire at 9 p.m. on Thursday. The Bi-State region will be experiencing humid conditions and scorching extreme heat this weekend through early next week. Expect the remainder of your Independence Day holiday and most of this week to be hot and unbearable in the bi-state region. The National Weather Service in St. Louis has activated a Heat Advisory Sunday afternoon. It will officially be in effect as of noon Monday, July 4. High temperatures and high humidity create hazardous conditions with heat index values between 100 and 105 degrees on Monday.
