Nokomis Lions host 51st annual basketball tournament

NOKOMIS -- The Nokomis Lions Club sponsored the 51st annual eighth grade Lions basketball tournament last week, which ran from November 1-5 in the Nokomis High School gym. Teams from Nokomis, Vandalia, Pana, Morrisonville, (Taylorville) Vision Way Christian, Hillsboro, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, and Shelbyville would participate in the tournament. Chamber discusses Christmas, nickel raffle, annual meeting

NOKOMIS -- The Nokomis Chamber of Commerce met at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4 at Demi’s Diner. Vice President Judy Rupert presided over the meeting in absence of president Ed Heck. Eight members were in attendance. Minutes from the September 9 meeting were presented via email prior to the meeting and were approved. HILLSBORO -- While Montgomery County Board chairman Evan Young has 60 days from Tuesday, Nov. 3 to nominate a new replacement, Republicans in the county central committee already has someone in mind. Holly Lemons is departing her position for a new role in the state court system and therefore is creating a vacancy. NOKOMIS -- The closing on the former Nokomis Kroger store will occur sometime this week. Standard Holdings, LLC will close on the former Kroger store, owned by Kroger Limited Partnership. Standard Holdings, LLC is an investment company that purchases various commercial properties and remodels them to meet the tenant's needs as they have dealings with various types of businesses. Nokomis council hears about potential grants

NOKOMIS -- The Nokomis City Council met in regular session on Monday, Oct. 25. Scott Hunt, representing WHKS Engineers, Planners & Surveyors located in Springfield, introduced himself and his firm to the council. Hunt and his firm are interested in helping Nokomis apply for grants. They can also help plan the downtown project and complete the engineering needs. NOKOMIS -- The Santa Dennis Spirit of Christmas Giving is once again sponsoring the “Angel Tree” program. The program is for Nokomis CUSD #22 children of families in need of a little extra help at Christmas. 2021 marks the twelfth year of the program's existence in Nokomis. Lemons to resign as Circuit Clerk Nov. 5

Montgomery County Circuit Clerk Holly Lemons is resigning from her position, effective Friday, Nov. 5. After 12 years at the helm, Lemons is moving onward to a new position.
