Montgomery County Circuit Clerk Holly Lemons is resigning from her position, effective Friday, Nov. 5.

After 12 years at the helm, Lemons is moving onward to a new position. It will be with the administrative office of the Illinois state judicial system.

“Words cannot express how much this position and this opportunity has meant to me and my family,” Lemons said. “I hope that I have served you well. It has truly been my honor and pleasure.”

Beginning Monday, Nov. 8, she will be working as the learning and development manager for the Illinois Judicial College.

While she will work out of an office in Springfield, the majority of her work will be in Chicago.

“I’ve been a part of the college since its inception,” Lemons said of her new position.

Prior to her initial appointment and subsequent elections, Holly was a probation officer for three years. Upon taking the helm of circuit clerk, she began making some major changes within the county’s most paper-intensive offices to switch to digital format.

“We’re pretty much a paperless court system now,” Lemons said. “We’re one of the leading counties in the state in electronic court.”

Lemons is referring to the digital court information platform Judici, where her office has been keeping current records of all cases before the county, both present and past.

Illinois state election statutes will require county board chairman Evan Young to issue notice to the Democratic and Republican county central committees of the vacancy in an elected office. Young will then have 60 days to fill the vacancy, with county board approval, with a nominee from the same party as Lemons, a Republican.
