ST. ELMO — An investigation is underway by the Illinois State Police following an incident Saturday evening that resulted in a shooting in Fayette County.
The Illinois State Police’s Division of Criminal Investigations is investigating an incident that occurred in St. Elmo in the 2400 block of County Road 2150.
Local law enforcement received a burglary call around 7 p.m. Saturday in the 1600 block of North 1550 Road in Brownstown. The burglary was reported in progress with shots fired.
Investigators in the case state that Tyler Roe, 36, of Brownstown, fled the crime scene in a vehicle allegedly reported as stolen from the victim’s residence.
Deputies from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department were able to locate and pursue the vehicle.
The Farina Police Department would assist in the pursuit, with one of their officers completing a successful precision immobilization technique which would result in the vehicle coming to a stop.
As officers were approaching the vehicle, a Farina police officer discharged his weapon. The fired shot struck Roe, who sustained a gunshot wound. Roe was taken to an area hospital and was later released for booking at the Fayette County Correctional Center.
No officers or deputies were injured in the exchange.
No additional information is available, but the incident continues to be under investigation.
