Illinois insurance companies are responding to new state laws that give regulators authority to review and approve home and auto insurance rate changes. Gov. JB Pritzker signed the bills Tuesday. Illinois and Wyoming were previously the only states without regulatory control over insurance rates. The new laws take effect July 1, 2027. House Bill 4273 addresses homeowners insurance. SPRINGFIELD — Illinois lawmakers on Thursday began investigating alleged misconduct by Rep. Carol Ammons (D-Urbana) that was outlined in a federal indictment. CHAMPAIGN — The City of Champaign will close one block of Fifth Street and part of Kirby Avenue for road work. Fifth Street will close between Daniel Street and Chalmers Street near campus. Most Illinois retailers will be required to accept cash payments beginning in 2028 under a bill Gov. JB Pritzker signed on Friday. GREENVIEW -- Officials in Menard County have identified the man killed in an early-morning crash Friday near Greenview. The Menard County Sheriff's Department identified the man as Chance C. SPRINGFIELD -- The Diocese of Springfield is facing a new lawsuit alleging that a former priest sexually abused an altar boy at St. Mary’s Catholic School and Parish in Taylorville.
