SHELBYVILLE — The office of Shelby County State’s Attorney Nichole Kroncke has made an announcement of charges against a Shelbyville man.

On Tuesday, 32-year-old Michael Perry is facing one count of unlawful possession of methamphetamine. The charge is a Class 3 felony, with a sentencing range of two to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Perry is also facing one count of theft. The charge is a Class A misdemeanor, which carries a maximum term of 364 days in the Shelby County Correctional Center.

The charges allege that on Sunday, July 3, Perry was in possession of fewer than five grams of a substance containing methamphetamine. In addition, Perry would knowingly obtain unauthorized control of a bicycle, which has a value of less than $500.

The pending charges are merely allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The case was a result of an investigation by the Shelbyville Police Department.
