NOKOMIS — The Nokomis Lions Club recently presented a donation to the Nokomis Christian Missions.

Originally opened as the Nokomis Community Closet in 1998 by founder Ann Best, the Nokomis Ministerial Alliance joined with the Nokomis Community Closet and is today known as Nokomis Christian Missions. It has grown in its location over the years, with each one being bigger than the last.

The Christian Missions consists of a board, with representation of each church, co-directors Kevin and Joan Laurie, cashier Susie Adams, and bookkeeper Sonya Maretti. Last but certainly not least are the volunteers who keep the store full. The mission averages about 25 volunteers a month, ranging from grade school to high school students to a fun bunch of retired individuals, all of whom do a wonderful job.

Through the support of the local area, the mission has been able to supply quality goods at very low prices. Even though the Mission features clothing, they also offer a variety of items, including furniture, housewares, shoes, books, toys, and more. The Ministerial Alliance supports other programs in the area, including a book bag program for the youth, Bridge the Gap, and the Heat and Fuel Fund.

Financial contributions are always welcome to support this great mission.
