SHELBYVILLE — A Shelbyville man is facing elderly sexual abuse and aggravated battery charges. This comes via a news release Friday from the office of Shelby County State’s Attorney Nichole Kroncke.

Charles Dow, 46, is facing charges of two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of an elderly person. The charges are Class 2 felonies if convicted. Sentencing can range from three to seven years in prison, a natural life sex offender registration, and a term of mandatory supervised release of three years to life. There is also a maximum fine of $25,000.

Dow also faces two aggravated battery charges, which are Class 3 felonies. They carry a sentencing range of two to five years in prison and a $25,000 maximum fine.

The charges allege that Dow knowingly committed acts of sexual conduct with an elderly woman, fondling the victim’s breast and groin area. Furthermore, Dow made contact of an insulting or provoking nature with the victim by fondling the victim’s breast and groin area.

Until conviction, the pending charges are merely allegations and the defendant has a presumption of innocence until and unless proven guilty.

A bond was set in the amount of $50,000.

Dow appears in court for a preliminary hearing on Monday, Sept. 19 at 10:30 a.m.

Charges filed in the case are a result of an investigation by the Shelbyville Police Department.
