HP recalls computer batteries due to fire and burn hazards

PALO ALTO, Calif. (UPI) -- Hewlett-Packard has recalled 50,000 lithium-ion batteries for notebook computers and mobile workstations, according to a news release. The batteries can overheat and pose fire and burn hazards, according to a statement released Thursday by the United States Consumer Product and Safety Commission. The computer company received eight reports of battery packs overheating, melting or charring, including three reports of property damage totaling $4,500.
