Nokomis siblings accused of stealing elderly woman’s debit card, spending over $1,600

Sarah Hopping of Nokomis and Travis Hopping of Pana are facing aggravated identity theft charges after stealing an elderly Taylorville woman’s debit card Tuesday.

NOKOMIS/TAYLORVILLE (Heartland Newsfeed) — Two Nokomis siblings are facing aggravated identity theft charges following an incident involving the theft of a elderly Taylorville woman’s debit card.

Facing charges are Sarah M. Hopping, 22, of Nokomis, and Travis J. Hopping, 20, of Pana. The Hoppings are accused of stealing the purse of an elderly Taylorville woman and making $1,625.85 in fraudulent charges within the area.

Bond has been set for both individuals at $10,000 each, with a possible prison sentence of three to seven years if convicted.

Responding units from the Taylorville Police Department, Pana Police Department and Christian County Sheriff’s Department coordinated together to investigate the case and make the arrests.
