CHAMPAIGN — The City of Champaign will close one block of Fifth Street and part of Kirby Avenue for road work.
Fifth Street will close between Daniel Street and Chalmers Street near campus. Drivers who use that stretch should plan another route and allow extra travel time.
Kirby Avenue will have a lane closed between Waverley Drive and Cambridge Drive. The city says this is part of regular maintenance and improvement work. The lane closure may disrupt normal traffic, especially at busy times.
In both locations, drivers should expect detours and possible delays. The city asks motorists to follow all posted signs and to slow down in work zones where crews and equipment are present.
The city has not yet released exact start and end dates for the closures. Residents who want more details can visit the City of Champaign website or contact the Public Works Department. City officials say these projects help keep local streets safe and in good condition.
