MAHOMET — Water and wastewater customers in the Village of Mahomet will see slightly higher bills this fall. The village is moving to a billing cycle that reflects the previous month’s actual usage instead of charges from two months earlier.
In an August 1 letter to customers, the village said the change is intended to give residents more timely and accurate information about their water use. Under the current system, an August bill reflects June usage. Once the transition is complete, a January bill will reflect December usage.
To avoid a large catch-up bill all at once, the village will phase in the new schedule over four months, beginning with September bills and ending with December bills. During that transition, each monthly statement will include about one extra week of usage, meaning bills from September through December will be higher than usual.
After the transition ends, normal monthly billing will resume in January 2027. Each bill will reflect the prior month’s usage. The due date will remain the 20th of each month, including for customers on direct debit.
