Centralia Big Lots to close

CENTRALIA — The discount chain Big Lots is set to close nearly 300 stores nationwide, with one in Central Illinois location currently on the list.

The listing for the Centralia location on the company website displayed a banner that read “Closing This Location,” advertising their store closing sale. The company currently operates nearly 1,400 locations, but its store count will drop by nearly 20 percent after the closures.

The store closures came after the company saw a 10 percent decrease in revenue in Q1 of 2024 compared to Q1 of 2023. Multiple requests for comment by Big Lots were not returned.

The only other reported store closures in the Heartland Newsfeed coverage area include the Fairview Heights location in the Metro-East region in Illinois and two St. Louis stores in Missouri.
