Nickel raffle among items in September Chamber meeting

NOKOMIS — The Nokomis Chamber of Commerce met Thursday, September 9 at the Bottomley-Ruffing-Schalk Baseball Museum.

Dr. Scott Doerr provided an update on the nickel raffle. Half of the tickets remain, with tickets being sold during the home games this fall. The drawing is tentatively set for January 2022. Chamber members wishing to help volunteer selling the tickets can contact Doerr. The Chamber will receive a share of the proceeds.

There will be no annual fruit sales due to a cancellation, due to being unable to secure a fruit supplier.

There was no treasurer’s report from treasurer Loren Compton, who was absent.

Chamber President Ed Heck will be making necessary arrangements with Easterday Electrical to set up and takedown of Christmas lights and decorations. Set-up should take place shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Due to limited usage of the float the Chamber rents out for use in parades, the membership agreed that the Chamber should make arrangements to sell it. Heck will oversee arrangements for its sale.

The Chamber will once again meet in the back dining room at Demi’s Diner, as a result of an approved motion by Jake Leonard to make the move. A subsequent motion by Leonard to donate $200 to the museum for being such gracious hosts for the meetings would also receive approval.

The meeting adjourned at 8:15 a.m. The next meeting will be 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 4 at Demi’s Diner. The meeting is a week earlier due to the second Thursday marking Veterans Day.

Chamber approves citywide sales then cancels it Friday

The Chamber would originally vote to hold its fall citywide rummage sales. The dates are for Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16.

Dr. Doerr will be attempting outreach to area food trucks to be in Nokomis on those days. The nickel raffle tickets will be available near the trucks on those dates. Pana News Group will coordinate for the printing of maps, showing locations of the sales.

Chamber suddenly cancels, event to continue as unsponsored event

As of Friday, September 10, the board would opt not to hold the fall citywide rummage sales. The reasoning for its sudden cancellation was uncertain as of press time.

However, the event will continue separately from the Chamber as a standalone, non-sponsored event.
