MATTOON — Lake Land College is hosting an all-day Juneteenth celebration on Wednesday, June 19. The event is open to students, staff, faculty, and community members to celebrate the ongoing history of liberation, resilience, and overcoming in Black/African-American cultures.

The event will feature a keynote speech by “Alex Tha Great” in the Luther Student Center Theater at 10 a.m. Individuals can earn credit for Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDU) by attending the presentation.

The event will also include a Calm App group meditation session in the Luther Student Center Theater at 9 a.m. Black-owned businesses and food trucks will also be set up in Luther Student Center from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. for a Black-owned vendor fair. The event will conclude with a Walk for Freedom beginning at 1 p.m., which will start and end in Laker Point of the Luther Student Center.

Those interested in hosting a booth at the vendor fair should contact Mercury Bowen, Coordinator for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, at (217) 234-5244 or [email protected]. There is no cost to host a booth at the event.
