NOKOMIS — The Nokomis Community Events Planning Group met in the council chambers on Wednesday, Nov. 1. The purpose of the meeting was to finish up planning for the upcoming Snowkomis event.
The deadline is Friday, Nov. 10 to take out advertising for the Snowkomis flyer. All advertising orders should go through Chamber President Dr. Scott Doerr. Checks should be written to the Nokomis Chamber of Commerce and can be dropped off at the City Complex.
Activities will take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9.
Downtown shops will be open and participating shops will have baskets available to allow people to sign up for drawings. These drawings will take place on both days every hour. Entrants do not need to enter more than once as the slip remains in the basket throughout the event.
There will be a vendor fair at The Vault, the former Jim’s IGA store. The event is sponsored by the Nokomis Chamber of Commerce and will run both days. Vendors should contact Dr. Doerr for more information.
The celebration will kick off with a Christmas tree lighting at the City Complex at 5 p.m. with a variety of activities and fun to be had by all. They include reindeer and cookies, free ice skating, s’more roasting, food trucks, and a live nativity. Other activities include a scavenger hunt, horse-drawn carriage rides, Letters to Santa, and many more.
Saturday’s events kick off with The First Noelle 5K at 9:30 a.m., followed by the parade at 10:30 a.m. The parade theme is “Favorite Christmas Movies” or “Christmas In The Cinema.” All local businesses, groups, organizations, and individuals are encouraged to participate. The same wishing to participate from surrounding communities are also welcome to participate in the parade. Treats with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the Nokomis Public Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Final planning for the event will be on Wednesday, Nov. 29 in the city council chambers. This will be the final meeting prior to the event.
Additional information about the event can be acquired via the event page on Facebook or by contacting the Downtown Nokomis Association.
