CARLINVILLE — Law enforcement authorities have captured a suspect with links to a shooting Wednesday night in Carlinville.
Carlinville Police Department responded to the 1000 block of Johnson Street where a man was reported shot. 37-year-old Dana Morgan Jr. would receive life-saving treatment at the scene. Morgan would later die at Carlinville Area Hospital.
Witnesses to the shooting also noted that Blackburn College was under a hard lockdown after the incident. While it wasn’t known how long Blackburn was in lockdown, authorities would work to locate and arrest the suspect.

According to our media partners at WLDS, Carlinville Police were able to secure the arrest of the shooting suspect. Shawn M. Evans, 36, of Irving was taken into custody Thursday afternoon.
The arrest comes courtesy of joint efforts by multiple agencies. They include the sheriff’s departments of Montgomery and Macoupin counties. The Illinois State Police, the Secretary of State Police, and the U.S. Marshals Service were also a part of this task force.
Evans is facing preliminary charges of first-degree murder. He is currently at the Macoupin County Correctional Center on a $2 million bond, or $200,000 to post bail.
