NOKOMIS -- The Nokomis Public Library hosted the University of Illinois Extension on Tuesday as part of the library's Summer Reading Program. According to a news release from library director Lisa Casterline, the program had 15 children and five adults in attendance for the Extension's presentation on small mammals in Illinois. NOKOMIS -- The Nokomis Public Library announced the kickoff of its annual Summer Reading Program earlier this week. The summer program, which has been held for many years at the library, kicked off on Tuesday. It will run through August 5 prior to the start of the 2024-25 academic year. NOKOMIS -- Beginning in the new year, the Nokomis Public Library will have updated hours. Effective January 2, the library will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. during the week and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, according to library director Lisa Casterline. NOKOMIS -- The Nokomis Public Library is halfway through a program that allows patrons to donate food to the local food pantry. The library's Food for Fines program, which kicked off on November 1, gives patrons a chance to get rid of some outstanding overdue fees. NOKOMIS -- The Nokomis Chamber of Commerce met Thursday, November 9 at noon for its final meeting of the 2023 calendar year at Demi's Diner. President Dr. Scott Doerr presented an update on the upcoming Snowkomis celebration on December 8-9. The library closed Monday while staff, project managers, and volunteers help with the move from the city complex to its new site at 100 N. Spruce. NOKOMIS -- Land of Lincoln Credit Union -- LLCU -- has given the new Nokomis library additional funds to complete its project. In a press release from LLCU earlier this week, the bank donated $10,000 towards the project. A check was presented to library trustees on May 8. NOKOMIS -- The Nokomis Chamber of Commerce met on May 11 at Demi's Diner with a limited agenda. Jim Rupert, representing the Nokomis Public Library, presented a request for $5,000. The funds would help complete several aspects of the new public library. This includes any remaining remodeling and refurbishing, as well as the move itself to the former Masonic Lodge.
