GREENVIEW — Officials in Menard County have identified the man killed in an early-morning crash Friday near Greenview.

The Menard County Sheriff’s Department identified the man as Chance C. Rutherford, 27, of Greenview.

Deputies state that they were called shortly after 5 a.m. Friday to a report of a single-vehicle crash. The crash site was near the intersection of Altig Bridge Avenue and Duncan Avenue in rural Greenview.

A deputy arrived on scene before fire and EMS crews and found a vehicle that had left the roadway with Rutherford still inside.

Rutherford was pronounced dead at the scene.

The office of County Coroner Ben Hollis is assisting the sheriff’s department with the investigation.

Authorities are not releasing any additional details about what may have led to the crash.
