House passes stopgap bill to prevent government shutdown

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- The House has passed a short-term spending bill to prevent the government from shutting down later this week when it was to run out of funds. The stopgap measure, known as a continuing resolution, passed 231-192 to keep money in government coffers until Dec. 20. Recipients of Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI/SSI Disability) benefits for nearly 69 million Americans may notice an increase of their benefits for 2020, according to the Social Security Administration.
