NOKOMIS -- Having one Internet service outage every once in a blue moon is often a rare occurrence. However, having two within a two-week period becomes a point of frustration for all customers involved. In both instances did it involve CTI Fiber and in the Nokomis area. NOKOMIS -- A Nokomis Police Department officer is under supervisory oversight as the officer returns to duty. This comes following an incident last week. City officials are aware of an incident on June 17 at the Casey's General Store in downtown Nokomis. The officer would later receive relief from duties for the remainder of the evening. NOKOMIS -- The Nokomis City Council met for its regular session on Monday, June 8. Present were Mayor Dylan Goldsmith and Commissioners Scott Arkebauer and Charlie O'Malley. Also present were City Clerk Rachel Cassidy, City Attorney Chris Sherer, Tim Chumley, and Police Chief Earin Land. Commissioners Michael Glenn and Tisha Morris were absent. Several south-central Illinois newspapers came to an abrupt end last week. The Girard Gazette, Virden Recorder, and Northwestern News in Macoupin County ceased publication last week. The final issue of each paper was June 3. Readers were informed with a front-page letter in each edition, as well as a similarly-worded auto-response email. The shuttered newspapers were part of a chain owned by Schaumburg-based Paddock Publications. Paddock bought Gold Nugget Publications from the Norris family in 2016. SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and more than 200 law enforcement agencies throughout the state are teaming up to remind the public to buckle up and drive sober over the Memorial Day weekend.
