NOKOMIS — Having one Internet service outage every once in a blue moon is often a rare occurrence. However, having two within a two-week period becomes a point of frustration for all customers involved. In both instances did it involve CTI Fiber and in the Nokomis area.
The first service outage came during the mid-morning hours of Tuesday, June 16. CTI confirmed that the outage was a result of a possible line strike, presumably in Irving, which impacted customers in Nokomis and Witt.
Residential and commercial customers were without service from 10:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. on the June 16 outage.
Then, the area would suffer another outage Monday morning, leaving many customers at a standstill.
Similar to the June 16 incident, it was also a presumed line strike in Irving, although not explicitly confirmed by CTI as of publication. The outage would start at 10:30 a.m., and starting at around 5:30 p.m., customers are reporting service being back online.
Many businesses in Nokomis had to close operations early due to no Internet service.
Those not impacted Monday were businesses and households with Sparklight, Illinois Consolidated (including Fidium), and Internet customers through Shelby Electrical Cooperative.
CTI Fiber did not respond to a request for comment prior to publication.
