Presuming that all goes well on Independence Day, the Heat Advisory that has been active all week may finally sunset tonight.
An updated advisory from the National Weather Service in St. Louis early Saturday morning did not indicate any extensions. The Heat Advisory has been active throughout the week, with heat indices ranging from 100 to 110.
Saturday’s advisory will be in effect until 8 p.m. Central time.
Heat indices can be as high as 100 degrees.
The advisory remains in effect in the Bi-States, including portions of south-central and west-central and southwestern Illinois, as well as northeastern, central, east-central, and southeastern Missouri.
Potential impacts from the hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any
circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9-1-1 if you are experiencing an emergency as a result of the heat.
