PEORIA COUNTY — The Illinois Department of Transportation is set to begin a resurfacing project on Route 8 that will close lanes in parts of Peoria County starting next week. DECATUR -- An 18-year-old accused in the January shooting death of his father will remain in custody. This comes after a judge denied pretrial release, according to court documentation. Zachariah Wikoff, 46, was shot and killed January 18 near East Wood Street and South Maffit Street. Illinois shoppers will get a break on clothing, footwear and school supplies for 10 days this summer as the state’s annual back-to-school sales tax holiday returns from Aug. 7 through Aug. 16, 2026. SPRINGFIELD -- The Diocese of Springfield is facing a new lawsuit alleging that a former priest sexually abused an altar boy at St. Mary’s Catholic School and Parish in Taylorville. The suit, filed in Sangamon County Circuit Court names Father John O’Connell and says the abuse happened repeatedly between 1991 and 1994. SPRINGFIELD -- A letter of intent was signed last week at Scheels Sports Park at Legacy Pointe to build the Illinois Sports Hall of Fame.
