Contested primary comes to mixed conclusions at the polls

ST. LOUIS (Heartland Newsfeed) -- From the special election in Ohio's 12th Congressional District to primary elections in Kansas, Michigan, Missouri and Washington, Tuesday's election came up with some surprising -- and not so surprising -- election returns. The special Congressional election in Ohio was ordered to replace Rep. Pat Tiberi, a Republican, who resigned from office to work for a business group. The race is considered too close to call, according to The New York Times, with more than […]

COMMENTARY: Media coverage of alternative candidates shouldn’t include attacks

(Heartland Newsfeed) -- In an election cycle where Libertarian Party and Green Party candidates have received the most media coverage in years, there are still those in the mainstream media who want to drag candidates through the mud and attack their past. This has happened to several candidates over the past months and as of Friday, Ohio House candidate Kryssi Wichers became another target of the media. Spencer Remoquillo of the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette put out a hit piece on Wichers, who […]

Johnson considering run for U.S. Senate as a Libertarian

SANTA FE (Heartland Newsfeed) -- A former New Mexico governor is considering a run for U.S. Senate as a Libertarian in November's general election. Following a June primary that resulted in not enough votes to ballot-qualify and recounts that didn't help, the Libertarian Party of New Mexico is seeking a way to retain their major party status. That may very well likely happen should Gary Johnson choose to run. Johnson, a former two-term Republican governor, ran for president three times […]

Iowa gubernatorial race rated a tossup

DES MOINES (Heartland Newsfeed) -- According to one prominent political forecaster tracking all gubernatorial races taking place in 2018, the gubernatorial race in Iowa could go any way.
