Sewer problems and billing majority of discussion in Coalton Village Board September meeting

COALTON (Heartland Newsfeed) — In the meeting of the Coalton Village Board on September 13, the board discussed further action on the Battles property, a new tax levy and the upcoming arrival of their new truck among other business.

Prior to passing the minutes from the August meeting, it was noted that the Nokomis Fire Department will not be doing a controlled burn on the Battles property on Fairmount Ave. as part of the correction by Trustee Mary Speier.

No word has come regarding the sewer inspection, according to Water Superintendent Tom Gonet, which was part of the discussion when delinquent water bills and sewer rates from prior months were discussed. Trustee Mike Havera motioned to notify the City of Nokomis that they were investigating the issue, as well as their sewer bill. Trustee Steve Kimbro stated that he will contact John H Crawford & Associates Engineering out of Gillespie for assistance with this sewer problem.

No payment has been received by the county regarding taxes. Kimbro motioned to approve a tax levy at the rate of 4% in the amount of $7,930, which was approved. Also noted was that the fiscal budget needs to be amended in the October meeting. The new village truck, which was purchased in part by the grant monies they received, should be arriving soon and then will contact Dan Jansen for the funds to be released.

Village President Rick Cearlock was in attendance in the meeting of the mayors in Hillsboro on September 6 and discussed items such as preparations for the 2020 U.S. Census, emergency planning and public works. A table-top meeting has been scheduled for October 21 regarding the Illinois Public Works Mutual Aid Network, which will cost the village $100 annually. There is also a Community Priority List of Development Strategy prepared prior to January to be ready by May.

With no additional business discussed, the board adjourned at 7:55 p.m., set to reconvene October 11 at 7 p.m. Present were Village President Rick Cearlock, Village Clerk Kay Cook, Village Treasurer Sandy Jachino, Water Superintendent Tom Gonet and Village Trustees Steve Kimbro, Rod Eller, Tom Detmers, Mike Havera, Mary Speier and Steve Lee.

Originally intended to be republished in the September 20 edition of the Nokomis Free Press-Progress and The Morrisonville Times, late delivery by the village delayed it to the September 27 edition.
