Revenge of the Non-Profits Andrew Heaton, Brian Dunning
GRAPEVINE, Tex. — If you were planning to huddle outside of your nearest GameStop store, save yourself the trip this year. This is assuming your closest store hasn’t already closed or gone out of business due to the company’s ongoing restructuring plan.
GameStop is following the lead of other major retailers by being closed on Thanksgiving Day. Walmart and Target made similar announcements earlier this year.
Normally, the video game retail giant has been opening up to Black Friday shoppers at 3 or 4 PM. However, in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the announcement marks a return to previous corporate practices of closing for the holiday.
While shoppers will still be able to shop on Wednesday and Friday, Black Friday deals will be available online and through their newly-updated GameStop mobile app. It is not currently certain when the company will start rolling out their Black Friday deals. However, a recent press release does state that their biggest deals of the season will be available “earlier than ever before.” But as of now, there’s nothing signifying that those deals are now available. These deals could start at any time.
GameStop’s messaging is in line with what other retailers are saying. Best Buy’s Black Friday deals are ongoing. Target is confirming that their deals will begin on November 1. Recent television campaigns state that Walmart’s Black Friday deals will begin on November 4.
With Gamestop hosting more pre-Black Friday sales than usual leading to Thanksgiving weekend, it’s likely to see these deals during the month of November, if not in effect by the end of this month.
While shoppers can use the Ship from Store option, there are additional options to consider. Other options include ordering online for in-store pickup and in some markets, same-day delivery.
Be sure to check for availability if you’re ordering online with the intent to pick up at your local store. Also, be sure to check if there’s a delivery option available in your area. You may have to make the trip to your store if delivery isn’t an option.
