Illinois Republican Party files lawsuit against Gov. JB Pritzker

SPRINGFIELD — The Republican Party has filed a lawsuit against Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker for what they see as First Amendment rights violations.

Tim Schneider, Illinois Republican Party chairman, states the lawsuit is important due to excessive governmental overreach during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the party had to hold their quadrennial state convention in a virtual environment.

Illinois Democrats also had to hold convention virtually

Republicans weren’t the only state party who had to hold their convention business online.

The Democratic Party of Illinois held their state convention in a virtual environment.

The Illinois state Libertarian and Green parties were able to hold their state conventions in-person. That is due to the fact their convention dates were prior to Pritzker’s emergency declaration and first executive order.

What Pritzker wants, he usually gets

Schneider further contests that Pritzker’s executive orders relating to COVID-19 only goes against what the governor wants.

Schneider says that peaceful protesters have a right and just cause, but the privilege should not have a limitation to only them.

Liberty Justice Center representing Republicans in this case

Daniel Suhr from the Liberty Justice Center in Chicago is representing the party in this case. Suhr contests that Pritzker’s double standards in Illinois is at least partially focusing on political advantage.

The Office of the Governor has not made a comment on the pending lawsuit.
