Illinois lawmakers schedule Aug. 31 session to redraw legislative maps in light of census data

Republicans say the matter should go to a bipartisan commission

SPRINGFIELD (Capitol News Illinois) – Lawmakers will head back to the Capitol on Tuesday, Aug. 31, to consider changes to the legislative maps that Gov. JB Pritzker signed into law earlier this year. Those maps – which set the new boundaries for the 118 state House and 59 state Senate districts for the next decade – were passed based on survey data in May, as the full U.S. Census block-level numbers were not made available until Aug. 12. The release […]

Virtual hearing set for week after U.S. Census data is officially released

The motion, filed Friday, was an expected move following a Wednesday, July 14, status hearing for two consolidated lawsuits filed by Republican legislative leaders Sen. Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods), and Rep. Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs), […]

COMMENTARY: Republican legislators implicated as part of Madigan special interest donations

As if the whole corruption saga surrounding Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan wasn't already interesting. However, it just got that much more interesting, based on recent developments that now implicate members of the Republican Party. Madigan, presumably "Public Official A" in recent ComEd legal filings, and some of his special interests may have something to do with contributions to some Republicans as well. Davidsmeyer willingly admits to receiving ComEd money State Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) recently stated on local station […]

SPRINGFIELD (Heartland Newsfeed) -- Several members of the Republican caucus are calling for a special session in order to bring ethics reform to the General Assembly, but it doesn't seem likely it will happen this month. With union backing, McCann joins race for Illinois governor

SPRINGFIELD (Illinois News Network) -- Illinois state Sen. Sam McCann (R-Plainview) announced Thursday that he plans run as a third-party candidate for governor – a move that likely would siphon votes from incumbent Gov. Bruce Rauner. The first-term governor is widely viewed as an underdog in the race for the state's highest office against billionaire J.B. Pritzker. McCann's campaign with the Conservative Party stands to draw votes away from Rauner, who has alienated many conservative voters. Rauner narrowly defeated […]
