ST. CLAIR COUNTY — The Illinois Department of Transportation made a recent announcement regarding upcoming lane closures next week.

IDOT is alerting motorists to lane and ramp closures on eastbound Interstate 55/70 in St. Clair County. This is a short-term project to allow for bridge maintenance.

Beginning at 6 a.m. on Monday, May 4, traffic will reduce to two lanes between Illinois Route 203 and Exchange Avenue in East St. Louis. In addition, the ramp from westbound I-64 to eastbound I-55/70 will be closed.

All lanes, including the ramp, should reopen by 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 6. However, weather delays could push the reopening date later.

Motorists should expect long delays and should seek to use alternate routes during this closure.

Drivers should reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone.
