DECATUR — A two-vehicle accident in Decatur has resulted in the death of an elderly man.
The Decatur Police Department responded to an accident Friday at 3:11 p.m. at the intersection of W. Rock Springs Road and Westgate Drive.
An initial investigation by police revealed that a red 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser was sitting in the eastbound lane of W. Rock Springs Road facing westbound. The driver, a 68-year-old Decatur resident, abruptly turned right across the westbound lane and toward a driveway on the north side of the road.
A tan Chevrolet 1500 truck driven by an 18-year-old subject, with a residence also in Decatur, was traveling westbound on Rock Springs Road and collided with the passenger side of the PT Cruiser.
The driver of the truck and a juvenile male passenger were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the PT Cruiser sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Decatur Police does not indicate that the driver of the truck was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Members of the Fatal Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and are actively investigating the crash.
No further information on the accident is available at this time.
