Two women dead in Collinsville area disturbance

COLLINSVILLE/PANA — A suspect was in custody by Illinois State Police Saturday afternoon, Apr. 2 a few hours after two women were found dead in the Collinsville area.

Information from the Madison County Sheriff’s Department report that at 10:26 a.m., deputies and officers from the Collinsville Police Department responded to the 1000 block of McDonough Lake Road following a 911 call “where it sounded like a possible disturbance.”

Upon arrival, officers found the bodies of two women outside the residence, appearing to be homicide victims, according to Chief Deputy Maj. Jeff Connor.

At approximately 11:14 a.m., the ISP communications center in Collinsville revealed information from MCSO through the ISP Emergency Radio Network regarding a suspect wanted in connection to the deaths.

Shortly after 1 p.m., local law enforcement from the Hillsboro Police Department and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department located the suspect’s vehicle, reportedly northbound on Illinois Route 127 near Hillsboro.

A pursuit ensued after officers attempted a traffic stop, later joined by ISP Troopers. The pursuit crossed Illinois Route 16, through the city of Nokomis in eastern Montgomery County and Pana in western Christian County before heading northbound on U.S. Highway 51.

The suspect’s vehicle came to a stop north of Pana at 1:53 p.m. because of a partial disabling of the vehicle.

Standoff ensued with suspect shot, investigation continues

The driver of the vehicle exited the suspect vehicle and pointed a firearm at a state trooper. The trooper discharged their duty weapon in the direction of the suspect.

The suspect was transported to a regional hospital for the treatment of serious, life-threatening injuries. However, the cause and nature of those injuries are unknown and are under investigation.

No law enforcement officer injuries in the incident. The trooper involved in the incident is a 26-year veteran of the Illinois State Police.

Connor also said that the Collinsville Police Department and Illinois State Police assisted in clearing the scene and determined that the suspect had fled from the scene.

The crime scene was processed Saturday in a joint effort from the Sheriff’s Department, Madison County Coroner’s Office, and the Crime Scene Services division of the Illinois State Police.

The Illinois State Police’s Division of Internal Investigation is leading an investigation. The investigation is related to the discharge of a trooper’s duty weapon following the pursuit of the suspect. Moreover, the investigation is standard protocol in accordance with the Police and Community Relations Improvement Act and per laws governing the Illinois State Police.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Department will be handling the investigation of the deaths of the two women victims.

The investigation is open and ongoing. Evidence and fact submissions for review will occur upon the completion of the investigation. It will then be referred to Christian County State’s Attorney Wes Poggenpohl for further action.

Latest developments in the Collinsville shootings

Authorities revealed further information on Sunday, Apr. 3 identifying the deceased as 30-year-old Jamie Joiner of Collinsville and sister Jessica Joiner, 34, of California. The suspect is 32-year-old Adam Cobb of Collinsville.

The connection between Jamie Joiner and Cobb is that they were in a relationship that had recently ended. Following the breakup, her sister arrived in town to help Jamie move out of the residence.

Cobb died from life-threatening injuries related to the police pursuit and standoff on U.S. Highway 51 at 4:40 a.m. Sunday morning.
