TAYLORVILLE — The resignation of Christian County State’s Attorney Mike Havera leaves the position wide open for the special election in 2022.
Wes Poggenpohl was brought into the office by Havera to get used to day-to-day operations and to make a smooth transition.
Wes was appointed December 21 by the Christian County Board to fill the Havera vacancy. He was sworn in on December 31 by Judge Brad Paisley, according to the Breeze-Courier in Taylorville.
In a press release Thursday night, Jan. 6, Poggenpohl would declare his official candidacy in the special election.
He looks forward to continuing the work done by Havera. This includes working alongside all law enforcement agencies to reduce crime and holding offenders accountable. This is with the endgame to keep the citizens of Christian County safe.
He currently resides in Morrisonville and is a Raymond native. The Poggenpohl family, with wife Melanie and children June and Cora, has lived in Morrisonville since 2014.
Poggenpohl was previously an Assistant State’s Attorney in Montgomery County from 2014 to 2021, handling a variety of cases.
